Background & Experience



Paul Gilman has followed a diverse and unique path in the entertainment industry. As a child prodigy, he studied with Dr.Abbott of the Boston Conservatory of Music. Paul is the recipient of a variety of awards including an Emmy, Clio,Telly and more.

Paul won the Battle of the Bands judged by Quincy Jones, Dick Clark and others. The event was televised on ABC where Paul was a featured guest with Aretha Franklin. Following this Paul organized a band and was signed to 20th Century Fox. This led to extensive touring and studio session work. Frequenting the finest studios in LA, led to Paul’s interest and development in the science of sound. Paul performed the first solo Electronic Concert at Boston Symphony Hall. The Boston press awarded Paul “Best Solo Performance of the Year.” Bob Moog, and Raymond Kurzweil, The conductor of the Metropolitan Symphony of Boston and Apple Computers were among the attendees. The Metropolitan Symphony voted Paul as Composer in Residence” and he was made a test site for Kurweil, Moog and Apple Computers. Paul’s integration of science and sound flourished as he worked on the development of MIDI with Apple. He as invited to perform twelve concerts at Appleworld to show developers the direction of the PC intergraded with Music.

Paul continued to apply his passion for composition and technology producing artists like Papa John Phillips, The Temptations, Leon Russell, The Pointer Sisters and many more. Paul wrote and produced commercials for clients such as Maybelline, Jantzen and Nissan. Paul has scored and created sound design for feature films such as “Best of the Best” with James Earl Jones as well as Television shows for CBS, the Olympics and many others.

Pushing the envelope of music as a universal language, Paul began a quest to communicate with whales and dolphins through music. He has demonstrated communication alongside some of the top researchers, scientists and cinematographers in the world. Utilizing underwater speakers and Hydrophones Paul creates a musical dialogue with these mammals of the sea and then swims with them as well as kayaking alongside Orcas while playing American Indian flute to communicate with them and earn their trust. Paul was awarded Artist of the Year from International Whale Week. The award is given to an individual artist in the motion picture industry, music, dance, and theatre. Fashion. Performing arts, or media that makes a major contribution to the protection of marine life.

Paul has developed a cross technology between his skills in his studio and a unique encoder developed and licensed to Paul through Dolby. The results are to create the feeling of surround sound on a normal set of headphones. Paul worked on Sir Paul McCartney’s “Live New World Tour” released this year bringing this new format to the audience of Sir Paul McCartney Worldwide.

As the music director of the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Paul has written original music and performed and conducted a live Orchestra to honor Quincy Jones, Franco Zeferreli and Danny Elfman.
